PARRY SOUND – There is still time to nominate a young person for the second annual Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Celebrating Youth awards.
The awards recognize youth under 17 who are living in, or are from, West Parry Sound who have shown excellence in a wide variety of ways – from athletics and academics to volunteerism and perseverance in a difficult time
“Really, anything we can be proud of our youth for,” said Mitchell Sawyer, Bobby Orr Hall of Fame education co-ordinator.
Last year Rachel Reevie won in the 15-year-old girls category for her volunteer work with local junior curling and her dedication to golf. Now 17, she still describes winning the award last summer as unbelievable.
“It feels good to have someone know that you are doing good for this community,” she said.
So far about 20 youth are on the list for consideration by the selection committee.
