It’s time again to raise some funds and have a little friendly competition.
The Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin kicked off the Flaman Race for Kids March 23, as title sponsor Flaman Fitness presented the local charity with a $5,000 donation.
This year’s event — the sixth local race — will run on June 10.
“For the sixth year we are extremely pleased to have the Flaman Group of Companies back as our local Presenting Sponsor as well as of other key Major Sponsors including Denham Ford Sales and Boston Pizza”, stated Dana Badke, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club.
“We experience tremendous support from our community which translates to supporting more children, youth and families.”
The race is one of the club’s biggest annual fundraisers. In 2016, the race brought in more than $33,000 and Wetaskiwin boasted three of the top individual fundraisers in Canada.
The goal this year is to have 20 teams participate and raise $32,000. Each team member of either, two or four members, must fundraise a minimum of $400 in order to qualify for the event.
The event has two streams: one for more competitive teams which are in the hunt for a trophy and the other just for fun. To win the race, teams complete a series of Minute to Win it and Amazing Race inspired tasks as they solve their clue sheet and race between checkpoint locations in the community to complete their checkpoint challenges.
